15 Large Area Rugs For An Instant Room Transformation
Go From Cold To Cozy With These Large Area Rugs
I’m a huge fan of any furniture or decor that can instantly transform designs. And large rugs are one of those items! But before you add one to your room, make sure you know how to pick out the perfect large area rugs.
Design pro, Emily Henderson,  has a few basic tips for choosing the right large area rugs. The key is to measure your seating space, and find a rug that fits. Orient the rug based on the room (vertical, horizontal). You also have to be consistent with furniture legs on or off the rug–use square rugs for square rooms. And finally, make sure your rug is at least a few inches wider than your sofa. A wider rug can make a small space look a lot bigger!
Large area rugs can transform your spaces in so many other ways, depending on what color, print, or fabric you choose. Keep scrolling to see 15 of my favorite large area rugs!
1. Nautical Stripes
If you already have a cohesive design concept for your room, pick a large area rug that will blend in with the rest of your furniture and decor. You can go for a blue living room with a nautical feel by picking out a rug with blue and white stripes.
2. Rustic Grey
Sometimes very modern spaces can seem cold, with all the metal and neutrals. A rustic grey rug can turn your work and study room from stiff and cold, to stylish yet cozy.
3. Bright and Cozy
Speaking of cozy, won’t a colorful living room look so inviting? A thick, white rug is a homey addition to all your bright-colored furniture.
4. Warm Orange
Making your dining room definitely ready for fall requires a special attention to color! What you need is a deep orange rug matched with some leather and black decor.
5. Round Woven
A round large area rug does a great job of making a small dining table and small dining space look bigger. If you have an open concept home, you should give round rugs a try! This is one interior design hack I’ll have to try out for myself!
6. Traditional Blue
7. Eclectic
A huge, empty space is both a luxury and a dilemma. If you don’t want to fill your space with furniture or decor, an eye-catching large area rug is a great idea.
8. Modern Monochrome
Modern designs deserve great large area rugs, too. Go for neutral colors like black and white. And simpler, more geometric prints rather than florals or eclectic designs.
9. Retro Patterns
Without fun, colorful geometric prints, a room has the tendency to look like any other modern traditional space. But with a large area rug, it can turn into a fun and stylish space.
10. Fringe Rugs
A fringe rug is a more youthful spin on boho style. It’s also great for everywhere; from dorm rooms, to your own apartment.
11. Warm Neutrals
If you have a crisp white space and don’t want to compromise it, add some warmth with natural colors like brown and green. A textured brown rug can prevent an all-white living room from looking too stiff.
12. Layered
Can’t decide on just one large area rug? Or don’t want to let go of your current rug? Try layering them instead. This also adds more depth and dimension to your living room design.
13. Colorful Geometric
While neutrals add warmth to an all-white space, bright colors and bold shapes bring in even more personality. Don’t be afraid to experiment with fun patterns and different colors!
14. Clean White
If you have a lot of cozy furniture and eye-catching design elements elsewhere in your space, a clean white or beige rug is all you need. It will keep the attention on your furniture, but still contribute to the coziness of your room.
15. Playful Animal Prints
On the other hand, if you want to make your large area rug the center of your room, go for something like a bold zebra print. It’s playful, but also very glamorous and modern.
