Dorm Room Checklist: 15 Essential Items For Your College Room

Don’t Leave Home Without These Dorm Room Essentials

Before you can achieve the dorm room of your dreams, you need to fill your space with the essentials. After all, having a good foundation is the secret to all great designs. You won’t want to discover that you’re missing essential dorm room items like tables or chairs in the middle of the school year, right? It doesn’t matter if you’re on a budget or ready to splurge, some things like beddings, storage, and chairs are non-negotiable. I’ve put together a dorm room checklist that will get you ready to go back to school. Just keep scrolling!

1. Extra Beddings

Extra beddings are at the very top of my dorm room checklist, and they should be on top of yours too. Not only is this a practical need, but your bed is probably the biggest piece of furniture in your dorm room and it will stand out. So make sure you always have neat and stylish beddings on. Bring at least two to three sets so you’ll be ready for any emergency.

2. Curtains

Curtains are another must-have on my dorm room checklist, because they’re so versatile! Use them as window shades, but also as dividers if you share a room, or as a makeshift changing room.

3. Organizers and Storage

Most dorm room closets won’t give you enough storage space, so bring some of your own! If you have a bigger room you can bring shelves. But for smaller spaces, plastic boxes should definitely be on your dorm room checklist.

4. A Side Table

Next up on my dorm room checklist: a side table! This has multiple uses as a bedside table, as a small dining nook, and even as added storage or decor space. You’ll never run out of uses for this in your dorm room, I promise.

5. Lighting

Lamps are another non-negotiable item on your dorm room checklist. You can use it as a bedside reading lamp, or as a desk lamp. It’s also a great decor opportunity, so pick out a stylish one like this rose gold lamp to let your personality show.

6. Photo Frames

Like a lot of other items on my dorm room checklist, photo frames have so many uses! Make a frame wall as decor, keep a few in stock to display future memories, or use it as a stylish way to display important phone numbers and addresses.

7. A Clock

Don’t leave home without a few throw pillows. They’re an easy way to make your dorm room cozier, and you can show off your personality with cute or stylish throw pillow designs.
